Lewisburg to Elkins West Virginia

Heading to Elkins, WV we passed an interesting looking general/antique store.

When we stepped inside, the owner was asking a group of 5 sisters if they'd like to see his family's old log cabin.  They walked outside and we joined in.

The cabin where 8 of Tom's relatives lived in one room.

 The porch . . .

Then Tom started telling old family stories - more and more, hard times when disagreements often meant death --

Then Tom asked us if we wanted to see the attic - more stories followed, how his great great grandmother did her quilting up in the attic because the cool wind would blow through the loose boards.

Barn swallows zipped over our heads to their mud nests in the ceiling.  One creative bird used lots of twine as well.

Then Tom herded everyone to his current house  - an on going Bed & Breakfast project -

-- with lots of old interesting furniture.

We finished up our day with a trip through the Elkins cemetery.  Looking for a view of the city and mountains, I found this inscription on Cyrus Kump's headstone.  What do you make of it?

**    Nothing in human life is to be more lamented, than that a wise man should have so little influence.  Cyrus was ready to be sought by those who did not ask for him,  He was ready to be found by those who did not seek him. He said, "Here am I, Here am I" to a people that did not call on his name.  **
