The black White Mountains (AZ)

Yesterday we headed north from Alpine and found some fun back roads in the mountains to explore.

Almost everywhere we drove we saw burned out woods and mountains from the massive Wallow fire last year.

We drove to the top of a mountain to the Big Lake lookout.  The steps to the fire lookout at the top were burned and crumbled.  We climbed through the rocks and rubble.

Inside the burned out tower we could see how appliances (a stove) etc. must have dropped several stories to the base.  Everything was melted and destroyed.

The inner spring remains of a mattress, caught on a metal upright beam.

As we drove back down the mountain, the yellow of new growth was bright against the burned dead trees.
